Glucosamine Sulfate 500 mg...Helps maintain healthy joints* Features & Benefits
Facts About
Glucosamine Sulfate
Joints
are involved in every movement of your body. Joints are made of cartilage
and synovial fluid which cushion movement, while ligaments, tendons and
connective tissue hold your bones together. During your lifetime, joints
receive a lot of stress. As we grow older, joints frequently are less
flexible and may be prone to aches and pains. Glucosamine
sulfate is a natural constituent found in cartilage and synovial fluid.*
It is a compound made from glucose (a sugar) and glutamine (an amino
acid). Supplementing with glucosamine sulfate assures your body of a
continuous supply of this building block of cartilage.* Glucosamine
helps proteins bond to water in cartilage and stimulates cartilage to make
proteins called glycosaminoglycans* (proteoglycans.) Glucosamine sulfate
also stimulates the production of cartilage cells called chondrocytes.*
Studies show that glucosamine sulfate is very well absorbed.* Glucosamine
levels in the blood reach a peak one hour after consumption and last for
up to ten hours.*1 In
one double-blinded study, 500 mg glucosamine sulfate, 3 times per day,
reduced aches by 40%.*2 All of the people showed some improvement.*
Several other double-blinded studies, using the same amount, produced
similar results of less tenderness.*2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Meaningful improvement
in joint movement and function occurred steadily during these studies.* In
all of these studies, side effects were no greater with glucosamine
sulfate than with the placebo (sugar pill).* A
clinical study of 1,500 people over a 9-month period reported that 95% of
the people who took glucosamine sulfate showed
significant improvement of their joint function.*6 Supplements of
1,500 mg per day were given for an average of 50 days. Very few people had
any side effects, but some experienced heartburn.* The improvement lasted
from six to twelve weeks after they stopped taking glucosamine sulfate.* Ingredient HighlightsNature's Life Glucosamine Sulfate 500 mg
is sodium free. Since glucosamine sulfate is not stable, either
sodium chloride or potassium chloride is added to protect this delicate
compound. Nature's Life uses only potassium chloride as a stabilizer.
Other brands may contain over 500 mg sodium chloride (table salt) in a
daily dose. Different forms of glucosamine that do not contain sulfate,
such as Glucosamine Hydrochloride (HCl) and N-Acetyl- Glucosamine (NAG)
are not as well supported by research trials. Safety of Glucosamine Sulfate
No
adverse effects have been noted in numerous human studies using 1,500 mg
of glucosamine sulfate daily.*1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 6 When dogs were fed 2,149 mg/kg/d (about 1 ounce per day for
a 30 pound dog) of glucosamine sulfate every day for over a year, no toxic
or ill effects were noted.*1 References
